KEY POINTS:
Privacy Commissioner Marie Shroff says she is worried that some of the vast range of data-matching programmes used by the Government could cause problems for innocent people.
In her annual report, Ms Shroff says while most programmes operate satisfactorily, her office is concerned "at the margin" about the operation of a small number of them.
She does not identify any of the programmes, but the report says people should not be presumed guilty solely on the basis of inferences from a matching process.
