Resigned Labour MP Darren Hughes has let it be known that his successor has his blessing to fight this year's election.
Lawyer Peter Foster was selected yesterday as Labour's Otaki candidate.
Hughes quit after it became known police were investigating a sexual complaint made by an 18-year-old student.
Foster said he understood Hughes to be pleased and supportive.
