Wairarapa's Marcus Daniell made two semi-finals at the $10,000 International Tennis Federation tournament held at Wrexham, England over the past week.
The 18-year-old took his world ranking from 1038 probably into the mid-850's by scoring three impressive wins in singles play.
He beat Daniel Smethurst (UK) 6-2, 6-7, 6-3 and Jonathan Kinsell (UK) 6-3 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals where he was leading Neil Bamford (UK) 6-4, 2-1 when Bamford retired hurt.
That victory took Daniell into a semi-final clash with Ian Flanagan (UK) with Flanagan winning a closely-contested match 7-6, 6-4.
Flanagan then went onto play another Briton Daniel Evans in the final with the scores being level at one set apiece when Flanagan also retired hurt.
The doubles saw Daniell team up with Frenchman Clement Reix.
They beat Smethurst (UK) and Dayne Kelly (Australia) 5-7, 6-2 (10-7) in the first round and fourth-seeded British pair Timothy Bradshaw and Jonathan Kinsella 7-6, 6-2 in the
quarter-finals.
They then played top seeds David Brewer and Ian Flanagan, of the UK, in the semis with Brewer and Lanagan winning the first set 6-3 and Daniell and Reix the second 6-4 to require a points tie breaker to separate them.
Again it was a close go with Brewer and Flanagan getting home 11-9 and then going onto win the final in straight sets.
