A dangerous fugitive was still on the run today as police warned people to call 111 and not approach him.
Daniel Eliu, 29, was alleged to have kidnapped his former partner and held her in her own car for five hours on Christmas morning.
She escaped when a security guard investigated and Eliu fled in his own car.
Today police warned the public not to approach him.
He had numerous gang connections and acting Detective Sergeant Steve Shaw, said while police were not sure if he was armed, he was considered very dangerous.
He was known to carry knives and a gun.
Mr Shaw said it was not known if he was using drugs.
"He has a nasty streak.
"He is certainly a bad, bad man," Mr Shaw said.
Eliu was known to have gang connections in south Auckland and a history of domestic violence.
Police said they briefly spoke to Eliu on his cellphone and he told them he would not cooperate.
He also sent police a text message repeating he would not surrender.
Police said anyone with any information about Eliu should call the Auckland Crime Squad on (09) 3794240.
