The damage from the weekend's tornado in the Far North is being assessed today.
The twister ripped through the Kaitaia region on Saturday, from Ahipara, to an area known as the swamp.
Witnesses describe tables and trampolines flying through the air. Houses in Pukepoto Rd and Worth St in Kaitaia suffered the most damage.
Chief fire officer Colin Kitchen says everyone from his own brigade to the Far North District Council rallied around to help the clean-up.
Government agencies including Housing New Zealand will be in the region today to assess the damage.
