KEY POINTS:
The magnitude of yesterday's South Island earthquakes initially worried experts monitoring the Young River dam, but their concerns were dispelled after a visit to the natural lake.
Geologist Jeff Bryant said the 6.7 and 6.2 Richter scale quakes had no obvious effect on the landslide blocking the north branch of the Young River, more than 20km from the Makarora township.
There was also no change to the amount of water spilling down the dam's overflow channel.
Another aftershock, measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale, hit today at 5.38am.
It was centred 50km west of Milford Sound at a depth of 7km and was felt in Queenstown and Wanaka, GNS Science said.
