KEY POINTS:
Team New Zealand yachting syndicate boss Grant Dalton today confirmed that a family trust had purchased a Queenstown section, which reportedly went for a possible record price.
He said the land was bought by an inter-generational trust of the Dalton family. He did not comment further.
The Otago Daily Times reported that the 4331 square metre section in Queenstown Hill subdivision The Peak went for between $2.5 million and $3m.
Vendor Glenn Carless said he believed "it was worth more than it sold for", although he was happy with the sale.
Locations Realty agent Stacy Coburn said the price could be a record.
"It's probably the highest paid amount for a single house site in the history of Queenstown."
