It's an entirely different scenario for the Dalefield men's and women's hockey teams as they both prepare for Wellington premier division matches against Indians in Wellington tomorrow.
Whereas the men will have at least five first choice players missing because of other commitments the women are in the happy position of being able to field a full strength side.
Men's coach Laurie Juno is taking a philosophical approach to his match against an Indians team to which Dalefield lost by 2-0 last weekend but defeated earlier in the season.
He knows his side will be facing an uphill struggle but is banking on their enthusiasm and determination making them a competitive force.
"Sure, we've got a lot of players missing but it's a big chance for those coming in to make a name for themselves," he said. "We have to play positively and trust that a few things go our way".
Amongst the additions to the Dalefield line-up will be Wairarapa under-18 skipper Kurt Goodin, a student at Kuranui College.
Dalefield women's coach Andy Wilson was "happy enough" with his team's 4-1 win over Indians last weekend but with a seemingly stronger squad to select from on this occasion he is wanting an even bigger winning margin.
"Indians are a handy side but I'd like to think we could come up with two or three more goals this time round," Wilson said. "We have some tough matches coming up so it's important we start making the most of our scoring chances."
