Dalefield aren't reading anything into past results as they prepare to play Karori in a Wellington premier division women's hockey match at Clareville tomorrow.
The last time the two teams met Dalefield hammered Karori 7-0 but Dalefield coach Nigel Goodin is aware consistency has hardly been a strength of either side this season and consequently he stops short of predicting another comfortable win.
"We should win easily enough but I'm not counting the chickens" he said,. "We've thought that before and things have turned to custard".
Goodin sees a Karori team which contains a number of talented Samuel Marsden College players making a big nuisance of themselves if they are allowed to play the counter attacking style of hockey which seems to suit them best.
"They are very quick on the break and they are the sort of team which can turn mistakes at one end of the field into goals at the other," he said.
Defensively, however, Karori have had their problems and Goodin is keen for Dalefield to expose them in that department through utilising the attracking skills of the of Ana-May Playle, Janeen Bruce and Libby Noema.
"The key for us is to get behind their defence and support each other on and off the ball, the more options we have at the attacking end the more likely we are to score goals," he said.
The Dalefield women's team will also be playing at Clareville next Tuesday night when they meet the powerful Eastern Hutt side in what is likely to be their last home game of the season.
Start time is 7.30pm and Goodin is hopeful of a large crowd to cheer his team on as they head towards the semi-finals of the premier division series.
Meanwhile the Dalefield men's team continue their Wellington premier division campaign with a match against Northern United at Clareville tomorrow.
Considering they finished the game with eight players on the field, including the loss of the inspirational Rowan Yeo with injury, Dalefield did well to lose by just 3-0 to Victoria University last weekend and an upset victory to them is by no means out of the question.
