Dalefield can take hope from recent history when they take on top-of-the-table Victoria University in a Wellington premier division men's hockey match at the National Hockey Stadium in Wellington tomorrow.
The fact Dalefield sit at the bottom of the points table with one draw from their seven games and Victoria University are at the very opposite of the spectrum with five wins and one loss from their six matches means University will start hot favourites, but that doesn't tell the whole story. In a previous meeting this season, University were forced to work overtime in beating Dalefield by just 2-1.
While they are yet to chalk up a win in their 2013 campaign, Dalefield have usually given about as good as they have received. The 8-2 loss to Northern United three games back is a bad memory but take that loss out and they have been beaten by one goal on three occasions, two goals once, three goals once and secured the one draw.
The secret for an upset success for Dalefield would be a strong start and the establishment of an early lead, something which would place doubt in the minds of their opposition who will be aware defeat would very probably mean they lose the competition lead to closest rivals Hutt.
