Justine Robertson scored four of the goals as Dalefield Black justified their favouritism with an 8-4 win over Red Star A in the grand final of the Wairarapa division one women's hockey competition, played at Clareville on Saturday.
In what was a high scoring affair Dalefield black opened the scoring through Laura Rhymer but Red Star levelled up at 1-1 before a penalty stroke by Robertson put Dalefield Black in front again.
Again Red Star equalised, this time through Kylie Henderson, and the teams went to the break at 2-2.
The second half saw Dalefield Black treat the large crowd of spectators to an excellent display of hockey.They scored six more goals to take out the title in their first year in the division one series.
Robertson (4) and Harriet Cameron (2) were the main goal scorers in a forward line which often troubled the Red Star defence and Nicolette Sheehan chimed in with an superb deflection early in the second half.
Red Star striker Henderson also impressed with her skills and added two more goals to her tally in the second half but Dalefield Black had the game well and truly in safe keeping by then.
