Dalefield recorded their second narrow loss in as many matches in the Wellington premier division men's hockey competition when they were beaten 2-1 by Victoria University at Clareville on Saturday.
Coming on the back of a 6-5 loss to Hutt this was another strong performance by the mainly young Dalefield side who took a 1-0 lead when impressive striker Dion Field got one past Black Sticks goalkeeper Kyle Pontifax. University then drew level at 1-1 and scored what was to be the winning goal about 10 minutes from fulltime
Dalefield created several good scoring opportunities with only the brilliance of Pontifax stopping them from adding to their scoreline. Field was the spearhead of the attack with Liam Workman impressing in midfield and stand-in goalkeeper Mikey Spicer deservedly earning himself plaudits for his tenacity and soundness in tight defensive situations.
