Dalefield are out of contention for the semifinals of the Wellington premier division men's hockey competition after their 4-1 loss to Indians at the National Hockey Stadium on Saturday.
The final scoreline did not, however, tell the whole story of a match in which Dalefield competed strongly in all departments and created as many scoring chances as their opposition.
Indians led 3-0 at one stage with two of the goals coming from penalty corners arising out of questionable umpiring decisions and the other from a communication breakdown in the Dalefield defence.
The second half came out even at a goal apiece with Dalefield making good inroads with their attacking play but managing to find the net on just the one occasion.
Player-coach Willie Schaefer was pleased with the commitment shown by Dalefield but frustrated at the end result.
