Dalefield created more scoring chances than Indians in their Wellington premier division men's hockey match on Saturday but it was Indians who were more clinical in their finishing work and consequently came away from Clareville with a 5-2 advantage.
"We just couldn't get the ball in the back of the net, that was pretty much all there was to it," Dalefield manager Bernie Lett said. "It was one of those frustrating games where you did enough to win but didn't."
Lett labelled Dalefield's effort in field play as impressive, with many of their attacks forcing Indians on to hard defence, especially so in the first half. Yet it was Indians who went to the break with a decisive 3-0 advantage.
The second spell started well for Dalefield, with Todd Gould getting a goal back early on. Gould did score a second goal for Dalefield but by then the horse had bolted.
Saturday's results:
Indians 5, Dalefield 2; Hutt 2, Victoria University 0; Harbour City-Tawa 3, Northern United 2.
