Dalefield opened their account in the Wellington premier division women's hockey competition with a 6-3 win over Indians at Clareville on Saturday.
Up 3-0 at halftime Dalefield looked to have the game well and truly in the bag but Indians hit back well and at one stage were trailing 3-4. However, Dalefield finished the stronger, adding another couple of goals to their tally to win comfortably in the end.
The Dalefield men's team also played Indians in a Wellington premier division match at Clareville and while beaten 1-3 coach Craig Nielsen was encouraged by the improvement shown in this particular game.
"We competed very well and clearly had the better of the first half," he said. "But unfortunately we gave away a couple of quick goals in the second half and that was the difference."
Centre half Daniel Juno had a strong game for Dalefield as did goalkeeper Alan Brady and Todd Sugrue.
