Dalefield are out for revenge when they play Indians in a Wellington premier division women's hockey match at the National Hockey Stadium in Wellington tomorrow.
The last time the two teams met Indians out-gunned a Dalefield side missing five of their regular players with nothing impressing more than the speed of the forward line.
"They are quick, very quick, and we need to nullify them in that respect," Dalefield coach Nigel Goodin said.
"We have to shut them down early, restrict their space and their time on the ball."
Unfortunately for Dalefield they will not be at full strength again this weekend.
Missing will be three of their regular starting line-up in Brooke Taylor, Georgia Burton and Chloe Stevens and Goodin agrees that places extra pressure on the reserves bench.
"Yes, it does mean that others have to step up and do the job but we're confident they have the ability to do that," he said.
"There are always times when you have to place faith in those coming off the bench, and this is one of those games for us."
Goodin was encouraged by Dalefield scoring six goals in their win over Karori last weekend and believes if the likes of Janeen Bruce and Ana-May Playle are given good service tomorrow they can pose huge problems for the Indians defence.
The closeness of competition in the women's premier division is shown by a points table which has Eastern Hutt showing the way with 14pts, followed by Indians 11, Victoria University and Dalefield 10, Karori 8 and Hutt 0.
Eastern Hutt and Dalefield have played five games, one less than the other four sides.
The Dalefield men's team also plays Indians in a Wellington premier division match in Wellington tomorrow and even a cursory glance at the points table gives a graphic example of the task confronting them.
Indians are at the top, having won five from five and scored 31 goals while conceding eight while Dalefield are at the bottom, having no wins in six matches and scoring seven goals while conceding 47.
On that basis a Dalefield victory would be the upset of the millennium but coach Mark Fenwick is optimistic they will at least keep the final scoreline to within reasonable bounds.
"It's all about self belief, if we go out there and focus on playing our game and not worry about anything which has happened in the past we can make a nuisance of ourselves," he said.
"Give them too much respect and they will take us to the cleaners, we have to get in their faces and make them work for everything they get."
The points table in the men's premier division is: Indians 17, Hutt 12, Harbour-City Tawa 10, Northern United 9, Victoria University 7 and Dalefield 0.
Harbour City-Tawa and Dalefield have played six matches and the others five.
