Fears that Dalefield may not be able to field a team in this season's Wellington premier division men's hockey competition have practically abated.
A training session called by new coach Greg Clark at the Clareville complex last week saw 15 prospective players in attendance, as well as four apologies.
And not only were the numbers pleasing but Clark was impressed by the calibre of the participants.
"He [Clark] was really happy with what he saw and right now I can't see any reason why we shouldn't press ahead," club spokesman Murray Nielsen said yesterday. "The odds are certainly well in favour of that happening ... "
Nielsen said the final decision on Dalefield's participation would probably be left until another training session at Clareville later this week but he was "pretty confident" it would be all systems go.
