Dalefield's 4-0 defeat did not reflect their competitiveness in the Wellington premier division men's hockey match with Hutt at the National Hockey Stadium in Wellington on Saturday.
Hutt, who sit second on the competition table, led 2-0 at halftime and added two further goals in the second half without reply but they were kept honest by a Dalefield side who created several prime-scoring chances but couldn't find the back of the net.
"There was not a lot in it in general play, we competed really well but unfortunately we were not quite clinical enough in our finishing," Dalefield manager Dave Blackwood said.
Saturday's match was the first by Dalefield since their star striker Dion Field left to live in Australia and his goal-scoring abilities were clearly missed.
