Dalefield will be taking no prisoners when they play Hutt in a Wellington premier division men's hockey match at Clareville tomorrow.
The two teams are battling for the fourth spot in the all-important playoffs at the end of the season and Dalefield coach Laurie Juno says his side will be adopting a "must win" approach on this occasion.
"We won't be holding anything back," Juno said. "It's a crucial game and we have to play it like that. We have get in their faces right from the start and stay there all the way through."
Hutt have been strengthened by the acqusition of two Dutch players, one of whom is a striker with a proven goal scoring record.
And that being the case Dalefield will be intent on closing him down before he can unleash that part of his game.
"We know what can happen if players of that calibre are given a free rein," Juno said.'They can take you to the cleaners and we need to do everything we can to avoid that."
Juno is confident that if the Dalefield defence is up to scratch they are capable of making inroads on Hutt in that department.
"We can score goals against them , I'm sure of that," he said."If our forwards get a fair share of the ball they can win it for us."
Meanwhile, the Dalefield women's team will be looking for a strong start in their Wellington premier division match with Eastern Hutt in Wellington.
Dalefield had to come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Harbour City-Tawa last weekend with their second half performance being far superior to that in the opening spell.
A similar situation tomorrow and Dalefield, which sits second behind University on the competition table, could be in trouble as Eastern Hutt have enough goal scoring potential to take full advantage of any lapses in concentration.
"We certainly don't want to be playing catch up hockey," Dalefield coach Andy Wilson said. "You fall behind teams at this level and it can be very hard to make up lost ground. We need to score first and go from there."
Wilson is also aware of the need for his midfield defence to be up to scratch as New Zealand international Roberts will be part of the Eastern Hutt side and she can create goal scoring opportunities from anywhere, "We have to always be mindful of the problems a player like her can cause, it's important she's not allowed to influence the game too much,' he said.
