Dalefield are set on ending a losing streak by upsetting Indians in their Wellington premier division men's hockey match at Clareville tomorrow - and coach Willie Schaefer believes it can happen.
Schaefer recalls that the last time these two teams met there was little between them in terms of territory and possession but after Dalefield led by 2-1 at halftime Indians capitalised on a number of penalty corners to win by a comfortable margin.
"They weren't any better than us in general play but we gave them too many scoring chances from close range and teams like them are always likely to take advantage of that," he said.
With that in mind, the Dalefield tactics will revolve around shutting down the Indians attacks well before they get into the danger zone. Dalefield will be aiming to give their own attackers the space and time required to penetrate the Indians defence with the recently-crowned Wairarapa Sportsman of the Year Jesse Workman likely to be their main strike force.
The only regular member of the Dalefield squad not available for tomorrow's game is coach Schaefer himself. He has a prior commitment and is confident manager Bernie Lett will prove an able substitute.
