Dalefield were "very disappointed" at their 3-1 loss to Eastern Hutt in the grand final of the Wellington premier division women's hockey competition, played at the National Hockey Stadium in Wellington on Saturday.
Their frustration was borne out of them completely dominating the match in terms of both territory and possession, but failing to make the most of their scoring opportunities.
"They (Eastern Hutt) only had six scoring chances and came up with three goals, we had eight penalty corners and plenty of other good chances and got just one goal," Dalefield coach Kim Henson said.
"That's what was disappointing??.we actually had the better of the game but ended up with nothing to show for it."
Dalefield went into the game determined to retain possession for long periods, and Henson was delighted with the way they carried out their game plan.
In fact, so dominant were they that going into the last 15 minutes he actually replaced a defender with a forward in an attempt to give the attack more impetus
"We had most of the ball and it was worth the risk of trying to boost the attack but unfortunately it didn't bring any more goals," Henson said.
Two of the Eastern Hutt came from international Niniwa Roberts from penalty corners with the other coming after one of the few Dalefield errors on defence, the ball being mistrapped and deflected into the net.
Dalefield's goal was scored from a penalty corner by Ana Playle who along with Janeen Bruce and Sophie Wickens were her team's outstanding individuals.
