Dalefield men's hockey coach Craig Nielsen will be going for broke in his team's Wellington premier division match with Victoria University at Clareville tomorrow.
Intent on having his side secure their first win of the 2006 season after a frustrating run of narrow losses, Nielsen is taking cognisance of the old adage that attack is often the best method of defence,
And to that end he is seriously considering national age group and Wellington senior representative Daniel Juno from the halves into the forward line, along with promising youngster Tobyn Yeo.
"I think the stage has been reached where we need to put all eggs in the one basket," Nielsen said. "We've been playing well without winning and we need a change of luck in that respect.Perhaps a few positional changes will give it to us."
Victoria University beat Dalefield 2-1 in their first round clash and has progressed well since then but while Nielsen openly respects them he is adamant Dalefield is capable of beating them. "Play to our potential and we can win?it really is as simple as that,' he said.
The Dalefield women's team lead their Wellington premier division competition but while they should beat Eastern Hutt at Wellington tomorrow coach Kim Henson is taking nothing for granted.
The last time the two teams met Dalefield had a scrappy 2-1 win and Henson sees Eastern Hutt as the sort of side which could upset them .
"They are a pretty handy unit and you wouldn't want to have an off day against them," he said.
Henson is also aware of Dalefield's struggle to pick up points in away games this season. They have played three times in Wellington for a loss and two draws which compares badly with their record at Clareville, where they have won all their matches.
"I don't know why but we seem to battle every time we go over the hill??that's one monkey we need to get off our backs," he said.
