Dalefield had to struggle for their 2-1 win over Hutt in the Wellington premier division women's hockey match played in Wellington on Saturday.
The two teams were level pgging at 1-1 at halftime with Rachel Dent having scored for Dalefield.
And it was Dalefield who scored the only goal of the second half, that going to Elizabeth Perry.
They also had a goal disallowed after one referee had ruled it to be fair and the other decided otherwise.
Dalefield coach Andy Wilson described his team's effort as "not too flash"
He said they had got little flow into their game and had wasted a number of prime scoring chances.
"Honestly we could have been at least four goals up at halftime, but we just couldn't get the ball into the net," he said.
Goalkeeper Bobbie Gardiner was a tower of strength on defence for Dalefield while the pick of their attack was the hard-working Katherine Wyatt.
The Dalefield men's team wnt down 3-1 to University in their Wellington premier division match played at Clareville.
It was a game in which the result flattered the winners as Dalefield matched them in most departments but University had the better finish to their attacks.
