Dalefield twice came from behind to draw 3-3 with University in their Wellington premier division women's hockey match played in Wellington on Saturday.
It was a fine effort from Dalefield which had been on the end of a 5-2 defeat from University in their first round encounter.
An Ana Playle goal saw Dalefield take an early 1-0 lead but University hit back with two goals of their own to lead 2-1 at halftime.
Playle scored again to make it 2-2 early in the second half and then it was University'turn to find the net and hold a 3-2 advantage.
But Dalefield were not be denied and they had the final say with Nicola James scoring to even things up at 3-3.
Coach Andy Wilson was delighted with the Dalefield performance. They were without promising youngsters Elizabeth Perry and Wendy Hull, who were on duty at the national under-21 tournament, but coped well against formidable opposition.
"It took a lot of character to come out with a draw," he said.
"We had to dig deep and we did. There was a lot of really good hockey played by both sides and the result was about what it should have been."
