Donations for the Cancer Society's Daffodil Day have equalled the record set last year.
Cancer Society chief executive Dalton Kelly said donations for this year's Daffodil Day on August 25 were $4.5 million, about the same as last year.
"This remarkable return is indeed testimony to the goodwill of the New Zealand public towards the work of the Cancer Society," Mr Kelly said.
The money for the 16th Daffodil Day will go to support for cancer patients and their families, research into causes and treatments for cancer, cancer prevention programmes and support and information services.
Mr Kelly said funds raised in a particular region would be spent in that region.
"People can be assured that their own communities will benefit directly from the money they have donated."
