KEY POINTS:
The Whanganui District Health Board's boss is expected to be pressed to resign today in fallout over disgraced gynaecologist Roman Hasil.
The Herald understands board members will ask chief executive Memo Musa to stand down.
A damning Health and Disability Commissioner report made public on Tuesday revealed Dr Hasil performed several botched operations, including removing a woman's ovaries without her consent.
He fled the country and went to Australia where he was found yesterday living with a New Zealander who works at a clinic specialising in reproductive healthcare.
Mr Musa said there had been no change to earlier this week when he said he he had worked "long and hard" to ensure the hospital provided the best healthcare possible.
Mistakes had been made, but the board was also doing a lot of positive things.
Board member and Wanganui mayor Michael Laws on Tuesday urged Mr Musa to resign, saying: "I can say the position of the chief executive is an issue we will clearly address at some time and probably sooner rather than later."
Meanwhile, One News spoke to Dr Hasil near Windsor, about 70km north of Sydney, where he has been staying with New Zealander Sally Hock.
When the pair arrived in a car outside Ms Hock's house, Dr Hasil sat solemnly in the passenger seat refusing to answer questions.
Ms Hock said her friend "does care" but was "really unwell".
She said he was not working and had talked about going bricklaying.
He has been reported to be on medication for depression and anxiety.
Ms Hock described him as a "broken man".
Dr Hasil later told One News he would talk once he felt well enough, and that if he had wanted to run away he would have already left the country.
The Herald revealed on Wednesday that Dr Hasil had been registered with the Medical Board of Queensland since October.
However, his registration has since been suspended.
