A Wellington student walking the length of New Zealand to raise money for cystic fibrosis is battling shin splints as she heads into Canterbury today.
Victoria University student Emma Daken, 20, left Cape Reinga on November 1 planning to walk 2200km to Bluff in 70 days to raise awareness and research funds for cystic fibrosis.
She was scheduled to arrive in Bluff on January 9.
Miss Daken said today she made an unscheduled stop in Blenheim over the weekend to ease her shin splints.
"Unfortunately my shins are really sore but I'm carrying on, don't worry," she said.
Miss Daken, on her third pair of shoes since leaving Cape Reinga, was expected to reach Christchurch by Saturday afternoon.
Her inspiration for selecting the charity was because her close friend suffered from the genetic condition.
