The body of a cyclist has been found on the rocks in Tauranga Harbour.
The man was found soon after daylight near Matapihi Rd on the rocks and his cycle was nearby, said police.
Few other details were available.
"The guy was found face down on rocks. They are not sure but it appears he may have been cycling and had an accident, but that is still to be confirmed," said Inspector Chris Robinson, from the police Northern Communications Centre in Auckland
"They are still trying to establish what happened.
"A pushbike was located near the body."
Mr Robinson said it was too soon to say if it was a hit and run.
