An Australian cyclist has been seriously injured after he slipped on ice and was hit by a car.
A Greenlea Rescue Helicopter spokesman said the 61-year-old man was cycling on State Highway 41 near Turangi around 10.45am today when his bike hit ice, causing him to fall off. He was then run over by a following car.
The Taupo-based rescue helicopter flew the man to Waikato Hospital in a serious condition. His injuries were mainly to his chest, the spokesman said.
It was earlier reported the crash involved a motorcycle and a car.
