KEY POINTS:
Police are appealing for witnesses to a crash which left a south Canterbury cyclist on a training ride dead at the weekend.
Alice Swainson Baker, 24, a laboratory technician, of Rosewill Valley, northwest of Timaru, was among five people killed on New Zealand roads over the weekend.
She was hit from behind by a car as she cycled along Pleasant Point Highway, north west of Timaru, about 9pm Sunday.
Senior Constable Geoff Smith, of the Pleasant Point police, said the 16-year-old driver of the car was not hurt.
Police were investigating the lighting Ms Baker had on her bike and what she was wearing.
They also wanted to speak to two motorists, who might have seen the crash.
