A cyclist has died and another has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car south of Tauranga this morning.
Ambulance team leader Lauren Smith confirmed a cyclist died at the scene of the crash on Takitimu Drive, known as State Highway 36, shortly after midday today.
"We received a 111 call at about one minute past 12 to say a cyclist had been hit by a car was possibly deceased. Ambulance arrived on scene and they confirmed the patient was deceased."
A second injured cyclist had been taken to Tauranga Hospital with non life-threatening injuries, said northern police communications inspector Inspector Peter Raynes.
The driver of the motor vehicle was speaking with police and co-operating with the investigation, he said.
