A cyclist has suffered serious injuries after he was hit from behind and pushed 20m in a hit and run in Wanganui overnight.
The man, 44, wearing reflective gear and with lights on his three-wheeled cycle, was hit by the vehicle on Totara St, Tawhero, about 11.30pm yesterday, said Sergeant Colin Wright, of Wanganui police.
He was pushed 20m forward and on to the footpath, wrecking the cycle. He suffered serious injuries to his head and neck but the vehicle did not stop, Mr Wright said.
The injuries were not life-threatening.
Road conditions were dry and street lights were working.
Police are appealing for witnesses.
