A teenage Masterton cyclist fell off his bike after crashing into a traffic island, leaving him unconscious on Saturday night.
Passers-by found the teenager on the side of Lincoln Rd and his bike on the footpath around 10pm and called emergency services.
There were no safety lights on his bike.
He had "light injuries" including a suspected broken arm and was taken to Wairarapa Hospital, said Daniel Paul, Wellington Free Ambulance spokesman.
Masterton Police sergeant Simon Irving said it appeared the 16-year-old male had not seen the raised pedestrian crossing opposite Masterton Medical Centre and rode into it, causing him to fall off the bike.
