Cyclist found dead on roadside

A 56-year-old cyclist was found dead on the side of a rural road by a passer-by just outside of Hanmer yesterday evening.

The body of a local man who had been out mountain biking was found alongside Fowlers Lane, a flat shingle road west of Hanmer in North Canterbury, about 5.30pm, a Hanmer police spokesman told NZPA.

The death did not look suspicious, he said.

An autopsy would be completed this afternoon.
