Over 150 Canterbury University students are angered over the news their courses may be cut.
The university plans to shut three arts departments including theatre and film studies, American studies and cultural studies.
Nine full and part time staff will be affected, as well as more than 150 students.
PhD student Marian McCurdy says the news hasn't gone down well with the students.
"A lot of undergraduates are very angry, I've been here for a while and I'm used to it and I know what I'm dealing with, a lot of these students are very shocked."
