KEY POINTS:
Customs officers at Auckland Airport today intercepted a kilogram of "ice" (crystal methamphetamine) worth around $1 million on the street.
The drugs were found on a man and woman arriving on a flight from Hong Kong.
A New Zealand Customs Service spokeswoman said the seizure wasn't a huge amount but officials were interested to see the pair were attempting to smuggle in the finished product.
"It's something we'd want to keep an eye on. Normally what we are intercepting on the border are precursors (ingredients). People are importing stuff and making it up when they get here [but] this was good to go. So whether this is the start of a trend, it's just something we will be watching."
She said it made no difference to drug dogs who found it no harder to sniff out the ingredients or the finished product.
