Labour's Wellington Central MP, Marian Hobbs, was hit in the face with a custard pie after an Aro Valley candidates meeting on Tuesday.
"I got a fright, but these things happen," Ms Hobbs said. She did not plan to take the matter further.
The man who threw the pie escaped on foot after being chased by two men, including David Farrar, National candidate Mark Blumsky's campaign manager.
