Skipper Sam Curtis was the big winner when the 2007-08 Wairarapa senior men's cricket squad held their awards dinner in Masterton late last week.
Curtis was voted player of the season by squad members, all of whom received one vote in the selection process.
It was an overwhelming victory for Curtis who received 70 per cent of the votes but a hardly surprising one after he had led Wairarapa to second place in the Hawke Cup zone elimination and earned himself a place in the Central Districts A team.
The consistency of opener Curtis with the bat also earned him the batting award with his 345 runs coming at an average of 49.28.
The bowling award was won by medium pacer Hayden Spierling, who returned to the Wairarapa after playing in Wellington the previous season. His 12 wickets came at a cost of 18.66 runs.
Spierling's Greytown clubmate Seth Rance won the all-rounder's award. He had his moments with bat and ball and was a late replacement in the Central Districts A side which easily beat Wellington A in a three-day fixture played in Masterton.
The award for best fielder went to Wairarapa College student Robbie Anderson while his brother, Jeremy Anderson, was judged to be most improved player.
