A wrong move could have been a costly mistake when the Melbourne Cup visited Auckland yesterday.
The $183,000, 18-carat gold trophy was taken to the harbour bridge as part of its 14th annual tour of New Zealand and Australia.
It perched precariously on the railing above the Waitemata Harbour but all was well, as the cup stayed firmly in the grasp of Emirates Melbourne Cup ambassador and race caller Bryan Martin, who is accompanying it on the tour.
Martin and the cup will travel to 34 towns and cities across Australia and New Zealand before it returns to Flemington in November.
