Chatham Cup winners Wairarapa United are still without a home for the 2012 football season, and fears are mounting they may be forced into recess because of it.
"It's starting to get to the desperate stage, time is fast running out," club president Phil Keinzley said yesterday. "Right now there don't seem to be a lot of options available to us. It's a big worry."
The Chatham Cup success saw all current squad members signalling their desire to play again for Wairarapa United next year but that situation could change dramatically if the home ground hassles are not solved.
"We know a number of the players are loath to sign up with us if we have to keep switching from venue to venue for our home games, and you can understand their frustration in that regard," he said. "And if we don't have the players we don't have a club, simple as that."
Discussions with Masterton Mayor Garry Daniell and council officers had led to the Colin Pugh Sports Bowl being put forward as a possibility but Keinzley said this had happened in each of the past four years without a positive outcome, mainly because ground conditions were not up to scratch.
