The first ever Matangi E Fa Cultural Festival held at Makoura College on Saturday was well-attended and may become a biennial event.
Makoura College Principal Tom Hullena said the aim of the festival, which Makoura was involved in, was to celebrate the different cultures in Masterton through cultural performance and food.
"It was all about celebrating diversity and understanding the various cultures in town."
He said the festival, which went from about 9am to 3.30pm and was held in the school hall, was attended by about 500 people at its highest point.
Performances were given by various cultural groups in town, including a Chanel College Filipino group and the Makoura College Kapa Haka and Poly Club and food stalls served up traditional dishes.
