An 11-deck cruise ship arriving for the Rugby World Cup has been forced to slash prices by half in a bid to spark interest among Kiwis.
Rhapsody of the Seas, which has a capacity of almost 2500, will arrive in New Zealand during the tournament and tour the country between matches.
But it is thought to have hundreds of cabins left to fill, and its prices have been cut to as low as $88 per night including accommodation, meals, entertainment and a trip around the North Island - without counting the value of tickets.
Steve Kirwan, manager of the Auckland-based Cruise Company, which is taking local reservations, said there was not as much interest as predicted four years ago.
"It's based on a cruise ship that companies have to commit to a long way out. These cruise ships are huge," Mr Kirwan said "We're in different times now."
