KEY POINTS:
A family member says when he asked why an ambulance was not called after hearing one of Chris Kahui's injured baby twins, Cru, had stopped breathing, he was told the baby had "come right".
Shane Saunders, who is married to Kahui's cousin April Saunders, told the High court in Auckland today he visited the Kahui South Auckland home on June 12, 2006, the day the Crown alleges Kahui caused the injuries to his sons Chris and Cru from which they later died.
Chris Kahui is on trial for murdering the boys but the defence contends someone other than Kahui, probably the twins' mother Macsyna King, inflicted the injuries.
The twins died from head injuries on June 18 2006, within about 14 hours of each other.
Mr Saunders, under cross-examination, said he could not be sure what time he left the house on June 12 but went to pick up his grandson from school. Ms King was not at the house when he left.
The twins had looked healthy and had no visible marks on them, he said.
About 9am the next day Mr Saunders arrived at the house and was told Cru had stopped breathing.
Mr Saunders said he asked Chris Kahui's father Banjo Kahui why no ambulance was called and was told the baby had been given a couple of compressions and "had come right so there was no need".
Mr Saunders said he had arrived at the house expecting friction between Kahui and Ms King over Kahui helping out with the twins.
Mr Saunders said he saw the twins in their carseats and they appeared asleep.
The trial continues with family members giving evidence.
