KEY POINTS:
Controversial mayoral candidate Steve Crow left a truck laden with a campaign billboard on Queen St without putting money in the parking meter for at least two days.
But the tow trucks were called only after the Auckland City Council realised Crow's mobile hoarding breached the city's billboard bylaw - not because the pornographer's truck took up three car parks for several days.
Crow missed being towed by just minutes, but the publicity-conscious candidate still had time to pose for a Herald on Sunday photographer who caught the action on Thursday.
Parked on the Upper Queen St bridge since at least Tuesday, the truck carried an election billboard clearly visible to the traffic on the southern motorway, depicting caricatures of Crow and incumbent Auckland mayor Dick Hubbard (inside a red sniper target).
Meanwhile police have warned Auckland Mayor Dick Hubbard that his election advertising is illegal.
The breach of the Local Electoral Act is technical - Hubbard's authorisation details include a PO Box, rather than a physical address as is required - but Inspector Rob Abbott confirmed that Hubbard had been officially warned over the transgression.
