Crown case in Bain trial close to an end

The High Court has set aside all day for legal argument on the 40th day of the trial of David Bain on charges of murdering five members of his family in Dunedin in 1994.

The jury has been sent away for the day and told they will be phoned if they are not required on Friday as well.

The legal argument is taking place today in closed court and cannot be reported.

After about 150 witnesses, the crown has almost closed its case.

The last of its witnesses was heard yesterday, but the jury has requested the replaying of Bain's 111 call on the morning of the murders and some of the video taken of the scene at Every Street, Dunedin, to be replayed.

When that is done, the crown will formally close its case.
