KEY POINTS:
Police in Auckland are investigating what appears to be the second hit and run incident in the city within 24 hours.
Inspector Ian Brooker from the police Northern Communications Centre said a man was found critically injured on Mt Eden Rd late last night.
The man was taken to Auckland Hospital with pelvic, back, head and facial injuries.
"Initial reports are confused and some witnesses indicate that there was some sort of altercation between the injured man and an associate and the occupants of at least one vehicle prior to the incident," Mr Brooker said.
Police closed a section of the road where the incident occurred and were speaking to witnesses.
A 17-year-old male was also critically injured after being struck by a car in the suburb of Northcote early yesterday.
Police said a woman had presented herself to police later in the day following publicity about the incident but had not been charged by last night.
