All charges against Allan Hubbard, the owner of collapsed South Canterbury Finance Ltd, have been formally dropped by order of Timaru District Court following his death in a car crash near Oamaru last Friday.
"All informations permanently stayed as the defendant is now deceased,'' District Court Judge Joanna Maze ordered.
Mr Hubbard, 83, a pillar of the community in Timaru, was facing 50 charges laid by the Serious Fraud Office after he and his 82-year-old wife Jean were placed under statutory management by the Government.
They were to have appeared in court this week to appeal against the move.
A decision is to still to be made over whether Mrs Hubbard will be released from statutory maangement.
