'Serious assault': Two men in hospital after fight in Papakura, Auckland

One man has been seriously hurt and a second is critical following a fight in the Papakura suburb of Rosehill early this morning.

A police spokeswoman said an investigation was underway after two people were "seriously assaulted".

"Police were initially called to an altercation between a group of people on Orchard Rise in Rosehill just before 2am," she said.

Orchard Rise remained closed while the scene was being examined.

A St John spokesperson said the ambulance service was notified of the incident at 1.58am. and sent two ambulances, one rapid response vehicle and one managing vehicle to the property.

"We assessed and treated two patients; one in a critical condition who was transported to Auckland Hospital and one in a serious condition who was transported to Middlemore Hospital."
