The start of Dunedin's twice-yearly "Project Safer Streets" was marred by two serious assaults at the weekend.
One man, 23, was stabbed in a dispute in the Octagon on Saturday morning, and early yesterday an 18-year-old was savagely beaten outside a tavern.
Both victims remained in intensive care in hospital late yesterday.
Two men were arrested and charged over the first assault.
