A 23-year-old Nelson man was sentenced to a year of home detention after pleading guilty today to the manslaughter of a friend in his car last year.
Brodie Joel Scott, 26, was killed when Michael Jameson's car slammed into a retaining wall in Nelson last October.
In Nelson District Court, Mr Scott's family asked Justice John Wild to be lenient in his sentence and spare Jameson prison.
Jameson was also sentenced to 250 hours' community service and disqualified from driving for two years.
